Obituary for Edward Shea
Edward W. Shea passed away on September 2, 2017 with family by his side at Beaumont of Northborough, after a period of declining health. He was 86. He leaves his devoted wife of 58 years, Maureen (Gauvin) Shea; his two daughters, Suzanne Mader of Milton, NH and Patricia Shea and her fiancé Thomas Hays of Northborough; his beloved grandchildren, Nathan Kenyon, Jaclyn Mader, Patrick, Chadd and Beau Yurkevicius; his sister Mary Cooley and husband Robert of Gardner; a brother-in-law, David Gauvin of Northborough; sisters-in-law, Caroline Shea of Southbridge and Rita Shea of Northborough; many loved nieces and nephews; his "adopted sister" Joan Perry. Ed is predeceased by siblings, Evelyn Casey, Bud Shea, Richard Shea and Nancy McManmon. Born in Worcester and raised in Charlton, he was the son of Maurice and Louise (O’Connell) Shea. Northborough was his home for the past 60 years. Ed graduated from Charlton High School and Central New England College of Technology. He worked as an Industrial Engineer at George Meyer Co. in West Boylston for many years. Most recently, Ed was employed at Axis USA in Marlborough, retiring in 1993. Mr. Shea proudly served in the Coast Guard aboard the CGC Barataria during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Rose Parish and American Legion Post 234 in Northborough. Years ago, Ed served on the Northborough Planning Board. He lived for St. Patrick’s Day parties, cookouts, and gatherings with his extended family and friends. Mr. Shea loved the sea and enjoyed his Cape Cod vacations with his relatives. Ed was a handyman who could fix most anything. He will be remembered as a very kind, generous and patriotic man.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sept. 7th at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., followed by burial with military honors in Howard Street Cemetery.
